Located in the landscaped park of the Campus of La Pompignane in the northeast of Montpellier, bringing together major companies and specialized services in tertiary activities, the project concerns the establishment and development in France of the company ZIMMER BIOMET, one of the world’s leaders in the manufacture of innovative medical devices, ranging from hospital equipment to surgical robots. The program involves the creation of the headquarters of ZIMMER BIOMET, with its offices and workshops, as part of a design–build project in association with the site owner. The building consists of a main body and a side wing, with five continuous floors of about 1 500 m² for the main body and six for the side wing. The prefabricated construction principle imposes a treatment that gives a simple, easily recognizable volume. The side wing, with prefabricated façades in white enamelled glass and exemplary execution details, offers the appearance of an “industrial design signature,” contrasting with the main body of the building. The contrasts of volumes, scales and heights link the two wings: clean white lines for the R+6 volume and a parametric façade grid for the R+8 volume. The main entrance is through the general entrance of the building, executed on a prefabricated structure similar to the geometric form of the parametric façade grid and through the interplay of light and interior volumes.
