Balexert is located near the highway, between the train station and the airport, and is the most visited center in Switzerland: 6.5 million visitors per year.
At Balexert, ZUO proposes a decoration concept rooted in geography, at the scale of the territory. Because we are not just anywhere: we are in the heart of the Alps, where the Rhône is born from a glacier, forming the largest lake in the Alps, Lake Geneva. We are in Geneva, the city that spans the river coming from the glacier.
This decoration concept is based on an oxymoron: “my warm and familiar glacier”. We created an interior architecture that subtly combines the images of ice and wood, with strong references to Switzerland. The idea is to associate the brilliant aesthetic characteristics of ice with the warmth and comfort that emanate from wood.
At Balexert, the project is doubled by a “red thread” that runs along the entire mall: it is a work of art that moves, occupying the sky of the shopping center, like a cloud of stars or flakes gently falling onto the glacier.
By following the stars, one discovers the customer journey.
