Sète is the main port of the Languedoc-Roussillon Region and one of its emblematic places due to its historical and cultural richness and the beauty of its site
Because of its strategic stakes the new Passenger Hub is a complex project that must combine the efficiency of its spatial organization the durability of its structures and its integration into the City of Sète
The Passenger Hub is therefore a highly functional building with optimal security and quality of service a reception space for maritime companies and passengers at regional national and European scale and an element creating continuity of the environment at the scale of the neighborhood and of the wider Sète landscape
A large part of the activities of the Passenger Hub take place outdoors the reception pre-boarding controls and boarding of passengers with vehicles
Users and staff of the Passenger Hub are exposed to the strong sunlight of the region the frequent wind and sometimes abundant rain
In order to provide the comfort necessary for the proper functioning of the Passenger Hub security and service quality and for the proper reception of passengers a roof covers the entire control areas and partially protects reception pre-boarding and boarding zones and the rest areas
The undulating and shimmering waves of these metal roofs linking the Port and the city at the foot of Mont Saint-Clair form an intervention on the landscape relating to Land Art
This living work changes with the mood of the sky and the observer’s point of view during the day and becomes a luminous painting at night with an inversion of the image and the roofs passing into negative and disappearing above a luminous carpet punctuated by the blue luminous heads of the lighting masts that grid the entire site
